WHITE RIVER NATIONAL WILDLIFE REFUGE
Dale Bumpers White River National Wildlife Refuge attracts about 455,000 visits each year from hunters, anglers, bird watchers and others. The refuge lies mostly in the floodplain of the White River, near where it meets the mighty Mississippi.
The refuge varies anywhere from 1/4 mile to 10 miles wide and approximately 60 miles long and is said to be one of the largest remaining bottom land hardwood forests in the Mississippi River Valley. Its forests and nearly 300 lakes are graced with streams, sloughs, and bayous. The result is a haven for a variety of native wildlife and migratory birds.
